I CAN SMELL THE HAY
The single “I Can Smell the Hay” is featuring vocalist Roy Crank from Kharkiv, Ukraine. The song is a tribute to individuals who have the courage to stand up against war, violence, and injustice.
The song is inspired by a historical photograph from 1941 depicting a German soldier who refused to take part in the execution of Yugoslav partisans and civilians. Instead of obeying orders, he laid down his weapon and stood beside them in front of haystacks — an act of quiet but powerful resistance that gave the song its title. While this image served as the initial inspiration, the song is intended as a universal tribute to moral courage in times of conflict.
The lyrics consist of two short Latin sentences meaning “Therefore these tears” and “War is beautiful for those who have never experienced it.” Their age and simplicity were chosen to give the song a timeless and universal character.
